What is Dual Credit?
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) defines dual credit as a system in which an eligible high school student enrolls in a college course(s) and receives credit for the course(s) from both the college and high school. Dual credit courses may be taught on the high school campus by an approved instructor or on the college campus.
Students in AISD can choose three dual credit pathways to challenge themselves academically and earn college credit.
Dual Credit Courses
Dual Credit Courses, through our partnership with Tarrant County College, are taught by TCC professors.聽
At this time we offer the following courses:
- Composition 1 (ENGL 1301)
- Composition 2 (ENGL 1302)
- Federal Government (GOVT 2305)
- General Psychology (PSYCH 2301)
- Intro to Sociology (SOCI 1301)
- Macroeconomics (ECON 2301)
- US History 1 (HIST-1301)
- US History 2 (HIST-1302)
Students register for these dual credit courses through their counselor and successful completion of the TSI test is required.

OnRamps
Another dual credit option is OnRamps.聽 This is a program through University of Texas at Austin where an AISD teacher facilitates a college course that is supported by a University of Texas at Austin professor. This is a great option for students who have not yet ventured into challenging coursework because they have the support from their high school teacher. Each of our traditional high schools offer different OnRamps courses, so it is best to consult with a school counselor for registration information.

Specialized Programs
色窝窝无码一区二区三区 is proud to have six Early College High School opportunities to serve students seeking academic challenge. There are two collegiate high schools, Arlington Collegiate High School and Arlington College and Career High School. There are also four Pathways in Technology, Early College High Schools at Bowie High School, Lamar High School, Sam Houston High School, and Seguin High School. Each P-TECH campus focuses on a different industry. Students from all of these schools have the opportunity to graduate both college and career ready with not only a high school diploma, industry certifications, and an Associates Degree.
Students can also earn up to 60 college credit hours as part of the STEM Academy at Martin High School.
8th-grade students can apply for these specialized programs during the fall application window.

Dual Credit VS Dual Enrollment
Dual Credit - the student earns credit for more than one educational institution with the same course
Dual Enrollment - students enrolls in two or more educational institutions at the same time. Also called concurrent enrollment.
Students simultaneously earn high school and college credit.
Most courses occur on the high school campus, and are taught by TCC professors. Some AISD programs work with UTA.
Students must pass the TSI to qualify.
How is it different from AP?
- Community colleges have an agreement with Texas state universities to take the credit earned from dual credit. Credit might not transfer out of state.
- Credit is earned by successfully passing the course, not by earning a qualifying score on an exam.
- Fewer courses are offered for dual credit.
Benefits
- If a student is attending a state university, the credits are guaranteed to transfer
- Helps with the balance of rigorous classes.聽 For example, a future engineer might want to take AP courses in math and science but dual credit for social studies and English
- Many CTE courses are available with credentialing
- New state laws allow some credits to be earned starting in ninth grade
How to be successful in Dual Credit
- A student who wants to graduate from high school with several hours of college completed can do so with planning and dedication.
- Effort and dedication are needed components
- The time to begin the work is BEFORE you start in AP or Dual Credit courses so you are prepared for college demands.
