A native of Point, Texas, Veda Knox was born on September 14, 1904 and lived in Greenville, Ranger, and Fort Worth before moving to Arlington, Texas in 1950. She was a special education teacher at Carter Junior High School and received her masters degree from Texas Wesleyan College.

She also studied at East Texas State University, Hardin Simmons University and Southern Methodist University. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Arlington, Texas.

Mrs. Knox passed away on June 11, 1967 at the age of 62.

In 1965, when the Booker T. Washington school for negros closed because of the integration of Arlington schools, the special education department moved into the building and made it a special education learning center. In 1972, the Veda Knox Special Education Learning Center opened and stayed open until 1993. Principals included Grace Atherton, Gwen Wilkins, Marlene Harper, and Karen Hill.

In 2001, the board of trustees chose to honor Veda Knox once again by naming a new elementary school after her. The spirit of Veda Knox lives on today in Veda Knox Elementary School.

Veda Knox Elementary closed permanently in 2021 as part of the 2019 色窝窝无码一区二区三区 Bond program. At the end of the 2020-2021 school year, Knox teachers and staff celebrated the school’s history and legacy before Knox closed. Read more and watch the ceremony.

 

The Knox building has been demolished and will be replaced with a new junior high school.
